Jeju Special Zone for Regulatory Freedom, Launch Demonstration of ‘Electric Vehicle Charging Sharing and Micro-Environmental Vehicle’
★★ All demonstration will be under the supervision of EVZ ★★
Jeju Special Zone for Regulatory Freedom will demonstrate the operation of electric vehicle charging infrastructure sharing platforms and ultra-small electric special cars, respectively.
Ministry of SMEs and Startups announced on the 27th that ‘Jeju Electric Vehicle Charging Service Special Zone’ will start full-scale demonstration.
◇ Jeju experiment with sharing charger for electric vehicle
First of all, in order to secure economic feasibility through sharing electric vehicle charging infrastructure, Jeju-type electric vehicle charging Airbnb demonstration will be conducted in Jeju, which generates profits by sharing it with others during idle hours when it does not use its own electric vehicle charger.
Currently, more than 70 percent of personal chargers are installed in apartments and other apartments in Jeju. However, most of them are left unattended except for individual charging time, and even if they try to install additional personal chargers, it is difficult to secure a dedicated space, which calls for improvement in the current operation method.
In order to improve this, Jeju Special Zone for Regulatory Freedom granted a demonstration exception so that if an individual who owns an electric vehicle charger entrusts the operation and management of the charger to a “shared platform operator” without registering it as a charging business, it can generate profits.
Shared platform businesses registered as electric vehicle charging businesses can hire electric safety managers to entrust and operate personal electric vehicle chargers.
However, in order to ensure the safety of the operation and management of the charger, the number of proper managed chargers per electric safety manager of the shared platform operator will be gradually expanded from 30 units in the first stage to 110 units. Based on the results of demonstration, the company plans to prepare proper management standards.
“If this project is launched in earnest, many of the problems of lack of charging infrastructure, which has been pointed out as the biggest obstacle to the supply and spread of electric vehicles, will be resolved,” said the Ministry of SMEs and Startups. “It is expected that new innovative growth models will be created through the activation of small-scale charging businesses.”
In this regard, Jeju Island will recruit participants for the second stage demonstration project scheduled for late October and the third stage demonstration project to be carried out in the first half of 2021. Anyone who owns a personal charger while living in Jeju Island can apply through Jeju Techno Park. Starting from the 1st of next month, up to 200 applicants will apply.
